South Texas Collectors Expo

A fer years ago Laredo, TX had a great little expo with local vendors and a mix of sports and comic guests. That was then, this is now.  The small event has grown greatly since its beginnings and so have the number of guests.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the turnout at this event.  I know why I was there but there were so many different collectors and spectators that I felt like this was a solid show. Spending much of the year traveling to major events in Texas, it was nice to be surprised every now and then.  The turnout wasn't the only change to STCE, there were many more guest this time around.  First on my list was David Yost of Power Range fame.  Being my first geek role model, I was taken back by how humble and kind he was to the attendees.  He even had a blue ranger helmet and morpher to hold while snapping a pic with Billy.  No less than a few feet away was Mr. Jeremy Bulloch but you know him best as BOBBA FETT.  He was the man in the armor, who would hunt Han Solo down and later be a cult favorite.  A brief talk with him about the upcoming star wars films did not lead to any inside info but did let me know that some of the original cast were being kept in the loop.  Another Show stopper was the talented Nicole Mary Jean.  Nicole is a great cosplay model and costume designer.  She was accompanied by Spencer Doe who attended as a very convincing Batman.  Other Guests of note were; Voice actor Tom Kane, Ex Cowboy D.D. Lewis, Vernon Wells from Mad Max, and Champion Wrestler Greg "The Hammer" Valentine.  There were several vendors with comic, scifi, and anime goods.  Comic book fans were also treated to commissions and autographs by published Marvel artists, Carlo Barberi and Sam De La Rosa.   My trip to STEC was a quick stroll through a growing event, where I expect to see new and great things at their future events.
